Is your home ready for winter weather?
It may not feel like it but, Fall and Winter will be here before you know it. Making the coming months the ideal time to prepare your property for the coming winter. Proactive measures can help prevent or at least mitigate the severity of the potential damage winter conditions may cause to your home.
We have compiled a short list of steps you can take both inside and outside your home to help prepare your home for the Winter.
Inside Your Home:
- Make sure your pipes and plumbing work are properly insulated to help prevent freezing.
- Add or repair weather stripping around doors and windows.
- Have your chimney and fireplace cleaned and inspected.
- Program your thermostat to keep your home at a consistent temperature.
- Replace your HVAC filter and get the system cleaned.
- Test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Outside Your Home:
- Clean gutters and downpipes of debris.
- Clear yard of brush and trim trees, to prevent ice build up and falling debris.
- Bring outdoor furniture inside if possible, if not, cover items to protect them from winter conditions.
- Move potted plants indoors before temperatures drop below 45°F.
- Place snow removal tools in an accessible area.
- Check your roof and outside structures for damage and have any damage repaired.
